Human Melanocyte Growth Supplement-2
L-DOPA ĪStainingā can be used to Identify Melanocytes
L-DOPA (L-Dihydroxyphenylalanine) is a precursor to dopamine (decarboxylated L-DOPA). L-DOPA is normally derived from tyrosine in the melanocyte, and is part of the normal biosynthetic pathway leading to the synthesis of several types of poorly-soluble and insoluble melanin polymers. Tyrosinase and several other melanocyte specific enzymes are responsible for the stepwise conversion of L-DOPA to melanins. This figure shows the specificity of this reaction. Only melanocytes accumulate insoluble pigment over the time course of the assay.
HEMn-MP, Lot 3C0651 were grown in Medium 154 supplemented with HMGS-2.
